A free alternative to GTmetrix for page speed and beyond

GTmetrix tests how fast one page loads, with waterfall charts and video on its paid plans. Shipwork answers a wider question for free: is anything quietly blocking crawlers, shoppers, AI agents or Google itself, speed included.

One crawl of a bounded sample of public pages, from outside your network. Nothing is stored.

What GTmetrix does well

GTmetrix is a dedicated speed lab. It loads your page in a real browser, records a filmstrip, breaks down every request in a waterfall, and keeps history so you can see whether a deploy made things slower. If your whole job right now is making one page faster, that instrumentation is the right tool.

Where a speed lab stops

It measures the page, not the site around it. It does not tell you whether the page is indexable, whether the canonical points elsewhere, whether AI agents may read it, whether the product markup qualifies for rich results, or what changed on the store today. Speed is one of forty-six checks here, not the whole audit.

What Shipwork does instead

  • Runs Google PageSpeed scores and real-user Core Web Vitals from the Chrome UX Report, which is what Google actually ranks on.
  • Puts the speed numbers next to indexation, structured data, merchant readiness, AI access and security in one report.
  • Needs no account and runs in the browser, with one page per finding and the specific fix.
  • Watches daily and emails you the day a check changes, instead of keeping charts you have to remember to open.

Which should you use?

Use GTmetrix to diagnose one slow page in depth. Use Shipwork first to find out whether speed is even the problem, and to catch everything else a speed lab never looks at.

Questions

Is Shipwork a replacement for GTmetrix?
No. GTmetrix instruments one page in depth; Shipwork audits the site around it, speed included, free.
Does it use real-user data?
Yes. The field-data check reads the Chrome UX Report, which is measured from actual Chrome visits, not a lab run.
Is it free?
The checks are free and need no account. The daily watch is the paid part.
