Are your pages too thin, or too alike?
A thin page rarely ranks on its own and dilutes the rest of the site. Two pages with the same content compete with themselves for one query. Both are common after a migration, a bulk import or a template change.
Measures the visible text of a sample of your pages and compares them for overlap. Nothing is stored.
How this check works
Shipwork reads a sample of your pages, strips the markup, and measures the visible word count and the content itself. It flags pages under roughly 250 words as thin, and pages whose content overlaps heavily as near-duplicates — the two content problems that suppress ranking without any visible error.
Questions
- How thin is too thin?
- There is no official number, but pages under a few hundred words of genuinely useful text rarely rank for competitive queries. The fix is usually to expand or merge, not to add filler.
- What counts as duplicate content?
- Two pages whose main text overlaps almost entirely. They compete for the same query, and Google picks one — often not the one you wanted.
- Should I noindex thin pages?
- Sometimes. A page with no search demand and no content is better noindexed or removed than left to dilute the site.
