First, check the sync window
Shopify’s current Help Center says the initial product sync can take up to 24 hours; after the initial sync, product changes typically sync within a few hours. If you connected the channel or changed products only recently, check again after the relevant window before rebuilding the integration. A delay is not the same as a disapproval: sync status and product eligibility are separate stages.
Start in Shopify admin at Sales channels → Google & YouTube and review the Overview and product listings. Then open Merchant Center and compare the affected item and its last update with what Shopify shows. Follow Shopify’s channel setup and sync guide.
Check the account connection
- Confirm the intended Google account and Merchant Center account are connected in the channel. The Google account needs the access required to manage that Merchant Center account.
- Confirm the Merchant Center account and domain are eligible and verified. Shopify notes that an account already associated with a different Merchant Center account may need its domain claim transferred.
- Check that this Merchant Center account is not a multi-client account; Shopify says its Google & YouTube channel cannot connect to one.
- Confirm you have not connected the same Merchant Center account to another Shopify store. Shopify documents one connected Shopify store per Merchant Center account.
- Review country and language settings, and whether automatic sync was turned off in favor of selected markets.
Be careful before connecting an existing account that already has a separate feed. Shopify warns that syncing through the channel can overwrite an existing product feed to avoid conflicts. See Shopify’s channel requirements and reconcile the feed ownership before changing connections.
Check product eligibility
Shopify’s channel syncs products that are available to the Online Store sales channel and satisfy the Google channel’s conditions. Open an affected Shopify product and inspect its Sales channels section. Verify all of these:
- The product is active and published to Online Store and Google & YouTube as applicable.
- The product has a description and at least one image.
- The landing page opens publicly and the product can be reached in the intended market.
- Google-specific attributes are present where required, including category and identifiers such as GTIN or brand/MPN for products that need them.
- Titles and images meet policy expectations; Shopify lists all-capital titles and promotional text overlays as common issues.
- Variant options are in English, which Shopify lists as a sync requirement.
Consult Shopify’s current product and account requirements; requirements can differ by product category and country. A product missing from a listing may simply be unpublished or excluded rather than waiting for a sync.
Read the product error
In Shopify admin, open the product and select Google in the Sales channels section to see product-level errors. Shopify lists common examples: missing description, missing image, unavailable landing page, missing GTIN or MPN, image overlays, and excessive capitalization. Fix the underlying product data and then allow time for the next sync.
In Merchant Center, distinguish processing from policy review. A product can arrive successfully and then be pending review, disapproved, or limited. Use the item’s issue details rather than repeatedly disconnecting the channel. For broader policy errors, see Merchant Center requirements for Shopify and merchant listings structured data issues.
When sync is still stuck
- Record the product URL, product ID, market, connection status and exact error text.
- Check whether one product or the whole catalogue is affected. One item points toward its publication or data; all items point toward account connection, sync configuration or channel-level processing.
- Confirm the product is available to the required sales channels and that the connected Merchant Center account is the one being inspected.
- After the sync window, use the support path in the Google & YouTube channel with the recorded error. Avoid creating a second feed or reconnecting accounts until you understand whether that will overwrite settings.
- After correcting the cause, verify that the item appears and check its current processing or policy status. A successful sync does not guarantee approval or display.
This guide covers the Shopify-managed Google & YouTube channel. A third-party feed app, manual file feed or another connector has its own schedule and diagnostics; consult that provider’s documentation for its sync path.
Shipwork reads public Shopify product data, which can help identify visible catalogue issues; it cannot see your private channel connection, sync queue or Merchant Center account status. Free, no account, no signup. Paste your store address.
